It's safe to say that Tiffany & Co. is marked up in price. They have a budget for advertising that most of us could not comprehend and are frequently adorning Celebrities with Diamond Jewels on the Red Carpet. With huge retail stores fitted to perfection in prime real estate locations and full page editorials in leading fashion magazines it's not surprising. Why? Because, well, this all costs money.
Having said all this, after having dealt with hundreds of Tiffany & Co's diamond pieces, there is unequivocally no doubt in my mind that Tiffany & Co. makes some of the finest jewellery available.
Many of their items have a certain finesse that not even the most skilled artisan could re create to an exacting quality. An example of Tiffany & Co. at their finest is the Tiffany & Co. Legacy Ring.
So the question is, is this worth the additional cost?
You do get the amazing craftsmanship and impeccable finish of their pieces, you do get their incredible designs and you do get a piece of history. What you also pay for is their incredible marketing and their very high overheads. Nonetheless if it wasn't for their huge marketing budget and store presence, most of us, particularly in Australia, wouldn't even know who they were. Marketing is the reason you thought of Tiffany & Co. when you started Engagement Ring shopping. Marketing is the reason you thought of that little blue box when asked to think of the perfect gift.
Regardless of their marketing budget Tiffany & Co. also deliver on exceptional quality. Tiffany & Co. have both an incredible marketing campaign AND an incredible product.
If I were to break it down into percentages, I would say Tiffany & Co. pieces are at least 20% better than the closest comparison and you are likely paying about 50% more.
Are you willing to pay 50% more for a piece that is at least 20% better than most items on the market?
For people who want the best, the answer is likely a resounding Yes!!

The practical reality is however, that as much as we would all love to spend $16400 on a Jean Schlumberger Ring, price is still a very real and very important consideration. That 50% more could be spent on a trip to Hawaii, or be put towards a Mortgage. At which point people may start to think, maybe I am happy to sacrifice that 20% quality IF it means I get to go to Hawaii.
Yes, you are certainly getting some of the finest quality around, however whether this is the best value for you may be a different story.

However what if you still love, dream and covet that Tiffany & Co. piece. What if you really do value the craftsmanship and that 20% better quality. What if you really do love the brand legacy but simply don't find value in the price.
As a collector I have to mention pre-loved Tiffany & Co. jewellery here. In my opinion pre-loved Tiffany & Co. jewellery is the best of both worlds. You get the exceptional craftsmanship at a significantly reduced price. You still get that iconic Tiffany & Co. piece AND the trip to Hawaii.
Many people are also not aware that even new jewellery from Tiffany & Co. or another Jeweller will still consist of recycled diamonds and gold.
In the US Tiffany & Co. offer a trade in and upgrade programme for all their diamond engagement rings. If you bring in your used Tiffany & Co. Engagement Ring, they will re sell you another one at twice the price. That traded in second hand Tiffany & Co. Engagement Ring is re polished and re purposed into another ring, to be re sold to another customer as new. Many jewellers in Australia also offer this trade in policy.
